Canon 40D is the Hot New SLR for 2008
The Canon 40 D may just be the most camera you can for the money, at least when it comes to Canons. Just released, this new model is the latest in Canon’s DSLR lineup. More economically priced than the D300, which isn’t yet available for purchase, the Canon 40D seems to have a one-up on it. Tagged at $1,299, reviewers have suggested that the Canon 40D is the best of Canon’s offerings in the $1,300 price range. Released alongside a third version of the EF-S 18-55mm f/3, the Canon 40D is available either on its own, or with a 28-135 kit, making it $200 more than its stand-alone price.
The Canon 40D represents the first major upgrade in Canon’s DSLRs in the mid-range since the debut of the 20D, which was about three years ago. Although some have implied that the Canon 40D is only a slight variation of its predecessor, the Canon 30D, Canon 40D has enough features and capabilities in its own right.
Users love the way the Canon 40D feels in their hands; it’s solid, quiet, and not awkward at all. In addition, the Canon 40D performs exceptionally well in low light with an external flash. Some even say that in this regard it could be on par with Canon’s 1 series. An additional neat feature of the Canon 40D, although one that hasn’t received much attention, is its ability to crop an image in playback mode. This is especially useful when doing direct printing of photographs.
