The Canon GL2 is a professional 3CCD 1/4inch camera capable of a whopping 380,000 pixels per CCD. The present replacement cost for just the Canon GL2 is more than $2000. The Canon GL2 is a popular camera with high video quality, as are the Sony DSR VX2100 and PD150models. The Canon GL2 is also a less expensive solution and is something between the handheld miniDV camcorders and the XL2. Gl2 GL2 uses optical stabilization; A1U uses electronic. GL2 Grand Tour At two pounds, seven ounces (about five ounces less than its predecessor GL1), the GL2 is a delight to hold and use. The GL2 has a very nice 20x optical zoom with a 100x digital zoom. Of course the GL2 has manual zoom, but you are presented with a multitude of options. The slower 1/8th of a second, 1/15th of a second and 1/30th of a second shutter speeds are new to the GL2. A feature that some really love on the GL2 is the custom preset.
The major upgrade of the GL2 over the GL1 is the addition of an SD slot of saving digital stills to. Some find it annoying that the GL2 can not save digital stills to the SD card while in the tape recording mode. Some people liked the lens on the GL2 over other types of cameras. Some people think the color range of the GL2 is a bit limited and that the GL1 had less of the motion artifacts you see on the newer cameras, but some feel the GL2s version is a little less choppy. In many ways I think the GL2 is important in what it might foretell for future versions of the XL and GL series.
